Overview

Reaction roles let your members self-assign roles by reacting to a message. No setup beyond the initial panel -it runs automatically from there.

How it works

You create a panel message that lists roles next to emojis. When a member reacts with an emoji, the bot adds the matching role. Removing the reaction removes the role. The bot can optionally DM members when a role is added or removed.

  • Up to 12 panels per community, each holding up to 30 role–emoji pairs.
  • Two message types: plain content or a rich embed.
  • Exclusive mode limits a panel to one role per user at a time.

Permission required

Manage Guild

The f!roles command requires the Manage Guild permission. Members can react freely without any special permission.

Quick start

Run the create command, write your message using {role:RoleName} placeholders, then react to the bot's copy in the order your roles appear.

The bot posts a setup prompt. Send a message like this:

{role:Purple}

Then react to the bot's copy of your message with one emoji per role, in the same order. React ✅ when done.

How it works

Run the command

Type f!roles create. Functious sends a setup embed showing the {role:Name} format and the steps to pair each role.

Write your message

Send a message with {role:Blue}, {role:Red}, etc. wherever each role should appear.

Bot copies & deletes yours

Functious deletes your original message and sends its own copy. React to the bot's message with emojis in order.

Each emoji you add is immediately paired to the matching {role:X} tag. The tag flips to the emoji + role name right away.
